History of Taiga Bassegoda Park
The process culminated in October 2008, when the Honorable Councillor Josep Huguet certified Bassegoda Park as a "First Category Campsite." Thanks to this transformation, it became the first smart campsite in Catalonia and Spain, allowing Bassegoda Park to be more environmentally friendly by reducing the energy consumption of its facilities and minimizing light pollution.
TAIGA Bassegoda Park took a significant step forward in 2015, obtaining the Starlight Camp certification, which recognizes it as a campsite that offers activities related to astronomy and its dissemination. Bassegoda Park officially became an astronomical campsite in 2017, when the Albanyà Astronomical Observatory was built in Camp de l'Illa and the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA) awarded the municipality of Albanyà the certification of the first International Dark-Sky Park in Spain.

TAIGA Bassegoda Park was awarded Starlight Camp recognition by the Starlight Foundation in 2015. As an astronomical campsite, we are committed to offering educational activities related to astronomy and promoting the understanding of the starry sky as an integral part of nature. This fosters a sustainable and environmentally responsible tourism experience that protects the night sky. Furthermore, a Starlight Camp must boast exceptionally dark skies of excellent quality, allowing visitors to fully appreciate the starlight.
That's why Bassegoda Park is a renowned astronomical campsite, ideal for amateur astronomers and anyone wanting to experience astronomy. All of this takes place in a unique natural setting within the Alta Garrotxa Natural Area of Interest. To fully enjoy Albanyà's incredible dark skies, Bassegoda Park also features a nighttime lighting system that minimizes light pollution. Our campsite also has a team of astronomy instructors and hosts dozens of schools and institutes each year for astronomy programs that combine accommodation at Bassegoda Park with a visit to the Albanyà Astronomical Observatory.
Since 2017, Bassegoda Park has also served as the gateway to the Albanyà International Dark-Sky Park, certified by the International Dark-Sky Association, the first of its kind in Spain. Observing the dark skies of Albanyà is truly an unforgettable experience!
At TAIGA Bassegoda Park, we are a true astronomical campsite. And we mean every star! Its privileged location allows you to enjoy one of the most exceptional dark skies in Europe. At the entrance to the Alta Garrotxa Natural Area of Interest from l'Empordà, and surrounded by kilometers of forest and mountains, Albanyà is an oasis of darkness.
Therefore, and after a considerable amount of time dedicated to popularizing astronomy, the Albanyà Astronomical Observatory was built and inaugurated in 2017. It is fully automated and equipped with state-of-the-art astronomical equipment, including the largest telescope in the province of Girona. The observatory's facilities allow for the dissemination of astronomy to the general public, as well as scientific research. Since the end of 2018, the observatory has been collaborating with NASA on observation and monitoring activities.
Are you looking for a unique place to take your students for astronomical stays, whether for their final project, school camps, or day trips? Bassegoda Park and the Albanyà Astronomical Observatory offer a range of activities designed for students from preschool through high school, to take place over one, two, or three days.
You'll be able to observe the Sun with solar telescopes, learn all about our solar system, and discover how to navigate using the stars. In addition, during your stay, you can stay in our bungalows and dine in our restaurant.
