It's one of the best-preserved archaeological sites on the Iberian Peninsula, with a theater, temples, a forum, and even an old salting factory. Bolonia Beach is right next door, if you fancy ending the day with a swim.

7. Castle of Guzmán el Bueno

In the heart of Tarifa, this 10th-century fortress is a historic gem with spectacular views of the Strait. From its walls, you can see the African coast, the port of Tarifa, and much of the old town. Inside, you'll find exhibitions, restored rooms, and a wealth of history to tell.

8. Medieval walls and Puerta de Jerez

Very close to Guzmán Castle, remains of the ancient walls that protected the city in times past are preserved. The Puerta de Jerez, which still stands, was the main entrance to walled Tarifa. Crossing it is like stepping into another era: narrow streets, white facades, and courtyards with bougainvillea welcome you on the other side.

TAIGA Tip: If you go at sunset, combine the walk with dinner on a terrace in the Old Town. It's a truly unique experience.
